The Interpretation of Dreams (German: Die Traumdeutung) is a book by psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.

The book introduces Freud's theory of the unconscious with respect to dream interpretation, and also first discusses what would later become the theory of the Oedipus complex. Freud revised the book at least eight times and, in the third edition, added an extensive section which treated dream symbolism very literally, following the influence of Wilhelm Stekel. Freud said of this work, "Insight such as this falls to one's lot but once in a lifetime."

The initial print run of the book was very low — it took many years to sell out the first 600 copies. It was translated from German into English by A. A. Brill, an American Freudian psychoanalyst, and later in an authorized translation by James Strachey, who was British.

Le livre présente la théorie freudienne de l'inconscient à l'égard de l'interprétation des rêves, mais aussi examine tout d'abord ce qui allait devenir la théorie du complexe d'Œdipe. Freud a révisé le livre au moins huit fois et, dans la troisième édition, a ajouté une section importante qui a traité le symbolisme de rêve très littéralement, à la suite l'influence de Wilhelm Stekel. Freud a dit de ce travail, "Insight telles que ce chiffre tombe à son sort, mais une fois dans une vie."

Le tirage initial du livre était très faible - il a fallu de nombreuses années pour vendre les 600 premiers exemplaires. Il a été traduit de l'allemand en anglais par AA Brill, un psychanalyste freudien américain, et plus tard dans une traduction autorisée par James Strachey, qui était britannique.
